INSTALLATION OF DOMESTIC AND SMALL COMMERCIAL
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING INSTALLATIONS
This qualification is intended as a short course aimed at continual professional development supporting the development of knowledge/understanding of electric vehicle charging design and installations. It is designed for practising electricians who want to gain expert guidance on the design and installation of domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging systems.
Learners undertaking this course may already be doing the associated roles from a practising operative capacity, with proven and demonstrable skills in working as skilled and competent electricians and/or electrical installers. The qualification is part of professional upskilling in the fast-growing EV infrastructure sector, aligning with industry developments led by BP, Shell, and Connected Kerb.
This qualification was developed with BP, Shell, Connected Kerb as well as the wider Electrotechnical sector institutions. It aims to support electricians in safely installing, designing, and maintaining EV charging systems in compliance with the IET Code of Practice and BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
The qualification covers additional methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults and how to assess if an installation has an issue with diverted neutral current. It also covers smart functions in EVSE and relevant items within the installation as a whole.

The qualifications above must have been achieved no more than 5 years prior to starting this qualification or there must be evidence the candidate has remained current by holding the latest version of the Wiring
Regulations qualification.

Our online portal makes it simple to access courses from any device
You can log into your learning using a laptop, computer, smartphone, or tablet, such as an iPad. As long as you have internet access, you can access your learning anytime, anywhere. If you’re completing the course at one of our centres, you’ll use our computers and Wi-Fi.
All of our courses are free, as long as you are 19 or older and meet the requirements of our funding regulations. Your keyworker or employment broker will discuss these requirements with you at sign-up and complete the necessary paperwork. So, don’t worry there’s no cost to you.
Your tutor will mark your work once you’ve completed all of the learning materials and any required questions or mock exams. If you need to expand on certain answers, such as providing more detail for a question that asks you to “explain,” your tutor may ask for more information to meet the assessment criteria. You may receive personalised feedback via email or be invited to come into the centre for one-on-one support if needed.
After your work has been marked and passed, you’ll receive your certificate. For non-accredited and skills courses, this will be sent electronically straight away. For accredited courses, certificates will be issued within 24 hours to 6 weeks, either electronically or as a paper copy. If electronic, it will be emailed to you. If it’s a paper copy, we’ll ask you to collect it from your nearest centre.
